Hi everyone!
I’ve just joined this forum as a longtime fan of retro computing and I’m really excited to dive deeper into the world of the Altair 8800 Mini. I recently got one of these amazing machines and it’s been such a fun blend of nostalgia and hands-on computing!
For anyone who hasn’t played with one yet, this little unit packs the legendary Altair 8800 experience into a compact, desk-friendly form. You can enter programs the classic way with the front panel switches, load disk images from microSD, and even connect via USB and RS-232 for terminal control — all just like the original!
So far I’ve:
Been flipping switches and watching LEDs light up like it’s 1975 ?️
Successfully booted CP/M from a disk image on the SD card ?
Experimented with serial communication from my PC using a terminal emulator ?
I’d love to hear from others about:
✅ Your favorite software you like to run on the Mini
✅ Tips or tricks for entering BASIC or CP/M efficiently
✅ Suggestions for mods or expansions you think are worth trying
✅ Any unusual or fun projects you’ve done with the Mini
Looking forward to sharing ideas, learning from you all, and maybe even showing off some desk-shots of my setup soon! ?
